Answer / Plan capacity and budget

How should you interpret small towing marketing samples?

Show the counts and uncertainty alongside percentages. One or two outcomes can move a small cohort dramatically without establishing a durable change.

Set the operating assumptions

Define the cohort and preserve known, unknown and still-open outcomes. Note changes in service mix, coverage and measurement. A small sample can identify a concrete defect, such as a broken link, but it may be insufficient to estimate a stable booking or collection rate.

A worked example

Fictional example: two bookings from four suitable inquiries is 50%. One more booking would make three of four, or 75%; one fewer makes one of four, or 25%. A report that emphasizes a twenty-five-point change without the four-inquiry denominator makes the evidence sound more precise than it is.

Set a decision boundary

Use the sample to choose the next useful question. Investigate documented failures directly, but avoid declaring a channel winner from unstable rates alone. Extend observation when the business can do so within its financial and operational limits. There is no universal minimum count that makes every comparison reliable; the decision, variability and design matter.

Check whether it worked

Revisit the conclusion as new comparable observations arrive. Keep the original hypothesis and note what evidence would change the decision. Do not invent statistical significance or remove inconvenient outcomes. If uncertainty remains high, choose a bounded reversible action and describe it as a test rather than a proven growth strategy.
