Start with the evidence
Take a defined week of inquiries and record request ID, requested pickup area, whether that area was supported at that time, observed source and the caller’s stated need. Keep exact addresses in your private job system. Review the campaign’s included areas, exclusions and advanced location option alongside that log. Google uses several signals and does not guarantee perfect geographic accuracy. A settings screenshot alone cannot explain every unsuitable call.
A worked example
Fictional review: twelve contacts produce eight distinct inquiries. Two callers have out-of-state phone numbers but need pickups inside coverage. Three requests actually need pickups outside coverage; one is ambiguous and two are clearly inside. The defensible finding is three confirmed out-of-area inquiries among eight, plus one unresolved location. Counting five unfamiliar area codes as five bad leads would point the owner toward the wrong fix.
Choose the next action
If requested pickup locations are consistently outside coverage, compare campaign targeting with the service-area wording on the ad and landing page. Record the current setting before any approved edit. If the pickup is inside but the destination is far away, review that job’s feasibility separately. If callers ask whether you serve an area because your page is vague, improve the explanation. Do not exclude a useful market merely because its residents have unfamiliar numbers.
Check whether it worked
After the change, group repeat calls again and compare confirmed pickup-fit counts over a comparable period. Keep unknowns separate and note changes to service availability. A lower raw call count is neither success nor failure by itself; check suitable inquiries, accepted work and the cost of the change. If geographic fit improves but bookings do not, move to the answering and quote review.
