Answer / Make the website work

How do you check whether towing website images are too heavy?

Measure the delivered image and its displayed role before changing it. An oversized decorative image can slow a page without helping the visitor understand the service.

Inspect the customer’s path

Record the page, image URL, file size, dimensions, displayed size and whether it appears in the first screen. Use the browser’s ordinary inspection tools or an authorized maintainer’s report. Keep original images with rights and context separate from optimized web copies.

A worked example

Fictional controlled example: a 4,000-pixel photo is displayed at 600 pixels wide and delivered as a 3 MB file. A correctly prepared smaller version may reduce transfer size, but the actual result must be measured. Merely changing the CSS width does not prove the downloaded file became smaller.

Choose the next action

Prepare appropriate dimensions and formats using the site’s established image workflow. Preserve meaningful alternative text and avoid putting essential service facts inside a raster image. Set stable layout dimensions where supported so loading does not move the contact action unexpectedly. Keep real image rights and privacy review intact.

Check whether it worked

Compare delivered bytes and page behavior under the same test conditions before and after. Inspect mobile sharpness, crop and loading failures. Report the observed lab result, not a claim that every visitor’s performance improved or that field Core Web Vitals passed. Recheck contact actions after changing shared components.
