Answer / Track jobs and money

What should you do with unknown towing job outcomes?

Keep unknown outcomes in a visible queue with the evidence needed and a responsible person. Unknown does not mean lost, unpaid or completed.

Define the records before counting

Identify the inquiry or job ID, last confirmed state, source records, missing decision and the person most likely to resolve it. Separate an unknown completion from an unknown payment. A job can be confirmed completed while its collection record remains missing.

A worked example

Fictional queue: J-14 has completion evidence but no linked payment; I-22 has a quote but no confirmed booking outcome; E-8 is an unlinked call event. These need a payment check, an inquiry-status check and an identity review respectively. Coding all three as zero revenue would hide both the missing evidence and the different follow-up tasks.

Resolve the gap in evidence

Assign a next action and review date. Use specific evidence such as a job record, authorized confirmation or payment reference rather than an unsupported memory. Preserve the original state and record the correction’s source. If no reliable evidence can be obtained, keep the limitation in the report and close the administrative task only with an explicit unresolved reason.

Check whether it worked

Track the queue size and age alongside the business metrics. Reconcile totals after corrections and explain whether earlier periods were restated. Do not silently backfill success or failure to make a dashboard complete. Recurring missing fields should lead to a better intake, handoff or payment-linking process.
