Check the profile evidence
Create a prioritized inventory of public URLs, business names, displayed numbers, website destinations, hours, ownership access and obvious duplicates. Start with the main search profile, the business website and sources visible in actual inquiries or owner searches. Record unknown access instead of assuming a contractor controls every listing.
A worked example
Fictional inventory: a prominent directory has an old number; a small listing has correct facts but no owner access; an unrelated site mentions the business in an article. The first is a contact problem, the second is a maintenance question and the third is not necessarily a listing the owner can edit. Treating all three as identical cleanup tasks wastes time.
Choose the next action
Prioritize wrong routing, misleading identity and materially inaccurate service information. Use each site’s legitimate correction or ownership process. Record fees as optional proposals requiring a business decision; do not subscribe to a service merely to make a checklist look complete. Avoid mass submissions to sites whose customer usefulness you cannot explain.
Check whether it worked
Revisit the changed public pages and document the visible result or pending status. Track whether recurring caller confusion changes, without claiming the correction caused a ranking gain. Keep the inventory current when numbers, hours or ownership change. If the same wrong fact persists across many sites, look for the upstream source before repeating manual edits indefinitely.
