Answer / Improve local visibility

What should a towing owner check in Search Console first?

Confirm the correct property and access, then separate sitemap submission, discovery, crawling, indexing and clicks. Those states describe different parts of search visibility.

Check the profile evidence

Verify that the property covers the canonical website and that the business has appropriate authorized access. Review the submitted sitemap and a few important URLs. Record the date and exact status shown. A successful sitemap submission means Google can process that sitemap; it does not establish that every URL is indexed or ranking for owner-selected searches.

A worked example

Fictional log: the sitemap contains twenty pages, Google discovers eighteen, and a priority service URL is “discovered, currently not indexed.” A live test can show that the current page is fetchable and allows indexing while the indexed version is still absent. Reporting eighteen indexed pages from the discovery count would erase the very issue the owner needs to understand.

Choose the next action

Check that important pages return their intended status, have consistent canonical URLs, allow indexing where appropriate and receive internal links. Use URL inspection for a small relevant sample and follow official guidance for recrawl requests. Do not repeatedly resubmit unchanged URLs or buy services promising guaranteed indexing. Keep private utility pages out of the public sitemap.

Check whether it worked

Return after Google has had time to process changes and compare the recorded statuses. Review actual query and page data when available, with the period and filters named. Distinguish motorists seeking a tow from owners seeking business guidance. If the page is technically available but not indexed yet, report that observation honestly and continue improving useful content and navigation.
